On Saturday, October 27th, the LCA Girls and Boys Cross Country teams traveled to Danville to compete in the 2018 KHSAA Region 5 Class A meet.  On line was a ticket to the KHSAA State Cross Country Meet.  They did not disappoint as both teams each won their 5th Straight Region 5 Class A title.
Leading the girls team was Freshman Anna Rupp who won her first cross country regional title in a time of 19:47 which will give her the #1 individual seed time at next Saturday’s State Meet.  The girls as a whole had an outstanding meet taking the team title with a low score of 47 to Region runner-up Owen County’s 79.  Senior Madeline Pulliam finished 5th overall, with Senior Kendall Hayes 12th, 7th grader Hadley Bronski 13th,7th grader Abby Bronski 16th, Junior Lauren Suiter 28th and Sophomore Allison Whitaker 30th.  Anna and Madeline were named 1st Team All-Region with Kendall, Hadley and Abby earning 2nd All Region Team Honors.  With their strong team performance, the girls will enter the state meet as the #2 Team seed behind defending champion Bishop Brossart.
As has been the case all season, the boys were led by the Senior-Sophomore duo of Andrew Madden and Connor Hayes.  This time it was Connor taking his first region title with Andrew finishing as Regional runner-up.  The boys dominated the field winning the team title with a near perfect score of 18 (15 is a perfect score) to runner-up Bracken County’s 90 with Freshman Lukas Furgason 4th, Sophomore Taco Nsimpasi  (in his second ever cross country race) 5th, Seniors Elijah Brand 6th, Malcolm Palmer 10th and Caleb Harper 12th.  Named to the All Region 1st Team were Connor, Andrew, Lukas, Taco and Elijah.  Malcom and Caleb were named 2nd Team All-Region.  Like the girls’ team, the boys team will take the starting line as the #2 overall seed behind last years’ champion Holy Cross (Louisville).  Connor will start as the #3 individual seed with Andrew at #5.
The KHSAA State Cross Country Meet will take place at the Kentucky Horse Park on Saturday, November 3rd.  The Boys will compete in the 1st race of the day at 9:30 AM with the Girls following at 10:15 AM.
