Saturday night, the Eagles faced another opponent looking for revenge for a 2017 loss. This time it was the Vicnennes (IN) Alices that came calling. And in a thrilling 43-38 victory the young Eagles grew up quickly. Jayden Barnhardt three for five touchdowns, including three to fellow-junior Dearious Smith.
Coming off a 50-7 loss at Pikeville, the Eagles came out hot, taking a 21-0 lead and then 28-12 lead into the half.But the Alices stormed back to take a 36-35 lead lat in the fourth quarter. But then it was time for Jayden Barnhardt to connect with Will Vernon on a 70-yard strike that put the Eagles on the 1 yard line with about a minute left.
A couple plays later Thomas White took it into the end zone and after a Barnhardt to Blane Hardin connection for the conversion LCA was up 43-36.
Despite a late safety after a game-clinching interception by Xavier Brown, the Eagles sealed the 43-38 victory.
This week, the youthful squad will travel down Clays Mill Road to face arch-rival Lexington Catholic.
