Last week, the boys and girls basketball teams pulled off double-dip tournament championships at the 11th Region All "A" tournament. Due to conflicts at Sayre, LCA played the host site for the event. Both teams had to win three games during the weather-affected week to win the championships.
The girls, who won their first region title since 2012, started their week off with a big win over Richmond Model 56-26. Thursday night they took one perennial power Sayre and downed the Spartans 61-50. In Saturday's championship, the Lady Eagles overcame a slow-down gameplan and hot shooting to defeat Berea 41-32. Grace Combs, Gracie Royalty and Bethany Selby earned All-Tournament team honors for their efforts.
The boys began their week with the first of three convincing victories over Sayre 70-48. Thursday night they took on a 14-2 Model team. Hot shooting and terrific execution led them to a 79-40 win. In the championship game, the Eagles took on Frankfort and once again the Eagles played very well en route to a 70-38 victory. Kyle Rode, Austin Hall and Carter Hendricksen were name to the all tournament team.
The girls will take on Shelby Valley at 8:30 AM Wednesday morning in the first round of the state tournament.
The boys will take on University Heights at 11:30 AM Thursday morning in the first round of the state tournament.
A limited number of discounted tickets will be available at the WINGS store beginning after school today until they are gone. Students will be granted excused absences with parental consent. The high school and junior high offices will send out detailed information about that later today.
