Lacrosse Program Reaching New Heights

Lacrosse Program Reaching New Heights

The 2016 season started out with a fresh face on the sidelines, as the program's only coach, Steve Fugmann, stepped down after last season. Fugmann tirelessly worked to create a program that would ultimately compete with the state's best.

This year, new coach Ethan Atchley (also the Eagle football coach) took over the reigns and is leading the team to new heights. When hired, Atchley, who had never played or coached lacrosse before, devoured videos, talked with experts and studied the game. He immediately got to know the players and set out to build on a culture of hard work, dedication to the sport and playing for each other.

Currently the Eagles are 7-5, thanks to a seven game winning streak, and have ensured themselves of the first winning season in program history. They have earned the #3 seed in the region tournament, facing Dunbar this Monday night at LCA. Regardless of the outcome, this team has taken the program to new heights and setting a new standard for Eagle Lacrosse.

Six seniors are leaving their mark on the program as they play their final season. Paxton Charles, Rick Childress, Blaine McNulty, Josef Sternberg, Peyton Strippelhoff and Jack Stucky, have formed the backbone of the most successful team in school history.

Congratulations to Coach Atchley and the Eagles on their record-breaking season and good luck in the post-season.
